The upcoming Family Guy offshoot Stewie has announced several new members of its key voice cast, according to a Wednesday report by Deadline. SNL alumni Kenan Thompson (Good Burger) and Vanessa Bayer (Trainwreck) are just two of the people lending their voices to characters original to the spin-off, which was ordered by Family Guy proprietor Fox this March.
Stewie, a co-production between Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane (American Dad!) and longtime writer-producer Kirker Butler (Galavant), sees the youngest member of the Griffin family expelled from his normal preschool and sent to a ramshackle substitute. With the hallmarks of home nowhere to be found, Stewie quickly gets to work using his genius intellect to invent some excitement for his newfound classmates, “turning every boring day at school into an insane and unforgettable adventure,” per Deadline.
MacFarlane will also return to voice the titular character, as well as Bean, Stewie’s reticent new classmate with more than a few screws loose. Thompson voices Royal, an Arnold to Stewie’s Miss Frizzle, while Bayer voices Morgan, a teacher who spends her time partying like she’s still in her college days. Other new additions to the universe include Melissa O’Neil (The Rookie) as Wanda, a girl Deadline describes as Stewie’s “intellectual soulmate,” the antagonistic influencer Caroline, played by Jessica Lowe (Minx), and Skunk, a hundred year-old turtle that serves as the newest member of Family Guy’s iconic caste of inexplicably anthropomorphized animal characters.
This isn’t the first time Fox has attempted to expand the Family Guy universe through spin-offs; fans may remember when series staple Cleveland Brown left to star in The Cleveland Show at the beginning of Season 8, only to return after the show’s cancellation four years later. This time, though, Fox has assured fans that Stewie’s new spotlight won’t affect his appearances on Family Guy (per Deadline).
“I am honored and humbled that Seth, 20th Television Animation and Fox have trusted me with one of the most iconic animated characters in the history of television,” Butler, Stewie’s showrunner, told Deadline when the series was first announced. “I have known Seth for more than two decades, worked with him on half a dozen projects, and I am hopeful this is the one where he finally learns my name.”
Stewie will premiere on Fox sometime during the 2027-2028 season, while all seasons of Family Guy are streaming now on Hulu.
