Esquire’s new trailer for their upcoming original series Beowulf was recently released.
The show is based on the oldest surviving long poem in Old English. The approximate time period that the epic poem was written is between the eighth and tenth century.
Beowulf takes place in a fabled place called The Shieldlands. It tests the concepts of good evil and good, villains and heroes, and the overall rule of law against one’s ethical standards. The series stars Kieran Bew as the so-called warrior who is summoned to help annihilate a kingdom from the vicious and mysterious monster.
The cast of the Beowulf series also includes Williams Hurt, David Ajala, Joanne Whalley, and Ed Speleers.

Though we only get to see a glimpse of the ravenous beast, the trailer asserts that “there will be blood bloodshed.”
Beowulf will premiere on January 23rd.
