Warner Bros. Television CEO Reveals Updates To Upcoming ‘Harry Potter’ Series And ‘Ted Lasso’

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the CEO and chairman of Warner Bros. Television group, Channing Dungey (Showtime, The Big Bounce) gave some updates on some highly-anticipated series coming soon. At MIPCOM’s C-Suite Conversations conference, Dungey teased what Harry Potter fans should expect from the new television series and spoke on Ted Lasso updates.

In September, 2023, it was announced that the wizarding world of Harry Potter would be returning to the screen in the form of a new television series, set to premiere in 2025 or 2026 via mxdwn. While creatives David Yates and Steve Kloves have been revealed as part of the project, per mxdwn, along with director Mark Mylod (Succession, Game of Thrones) and showrunner/writer Francesca Gardiner (Succession, Killing Eve), via The Hollywood Reporter, details for the newest series have been scarce.

When asked by the co-editor-in chief of Variety, Cynthia Littleton (Global National, The Garcias: Behind the Scenes) about how the Harry Potter series is coming along, Dungey had this to say: “There’s not a lot to talk about at this moment. We’ve got our fantastic writing staff in place and they are doing what they need to do. And casting calls have opened up in the U.K. and Ireland, so the process is moving along. It’s going quite well,” per The Hollywood Reporter.

Dungey, however, did reveal that the series will explore the Harry Potter universe in more depth than the films. She said, “It’s an unbelievable dream, honestly, and as somebody who is a huge fan of books, the opportunity to get to explore them in maybe a little bit more in-depth than you can in just a two-hour film, that’s the whole reason we’re on this journey” via The Hollywood Reporter.

As for updates on what the future holds for Ted Lasso, Dungey said, “We are in conversations about season four and they are very exciting conversations, but it’s still early days. But what I will say is that we had always been clear that there wasn’t going to be more [Ted Lasso] if Jason and the team weren’t feeling excited about it. I can tell you firsthand that he’s in a place where he’s feeling really excited and very good about it,” per The Hollywood Reporter.

While details for these series are slowly trickling in, fans should anticipate bigger news as production rolls along.
