Warner Bros. Animation Set to Create Animated ‘Dark Shadows’ Series Based On ’60s Cult TV Show

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dark Shadows, the 1960s Gothic soap opera, is coming back under Warner Bros. Animation. The series featuring tormented vampire Barnabas Collins and his supernaturally dysfunctional family, The vampire and family will be reimagined in an adult animation series. As per The Hollywood Reporter, the original series was created by Dan Curtis (The Winds of War, War and Remembrance), aired weekdays on ABC from 1966 to 1971 and quickly gained a cult following. It was one of the first hit daytime series and became an enduring cult classic. In 2012, there was a Tim Burton (The Nightmare Before Christmas, Alice in Wonderland)  Dark Shadows film adaptation starring Johnny Depp (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl), Michelle Pfeiffer (One Fine Day, The Fabulous Baker Boys), Eva Green (Casino Royale, Kingdom of Heaven), Helena Bonham Carter (The Land of Sometimes, Four Letters of Love), Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass, Let Me In) and many others

The Hollywood Reporter reports that the WBA stated that the animated reboot will continue where the original Collins family left off. The official log line reads, “Blending gothic, horror, and supernatural genres, this coming adaptation promises all the dark twists and romantic intrigue that defined the transformational series across its 1200-plus episode run.”

Lisa Holdsworth (Fat Friends, Waterloo Road), creator of Channel 4 series Dreamers and a writer on Sky’s Discovery of Witches and the BBC’s Call the Midwife, will executive produce and be the showrunner on the series, The Hollywood Reporter reports. Cathy Curtis (A Splendid Intelligence, A Generous Vision: The Creative Life of Elaine de Kooning) Tracy Curtis (Me and the Kid, The Whispering), Eric Homan (Bravest Warriors, Adventure Time), Kevin Kolde (Castlevania, Kid Arthur) and Fred Seibert (The Jimmy Timmy Power Hours, A Fairly Odd Movie: Grow Up, Timmy Turner!) will also executive produce on the series.  WBA did not give any details on when it expects to deliver.
