‘Walking Dead’ Stars Whip/ Nae Nae on ‘Lip Sync Battle’

On The Walking Dead, Sasha (Sonequa Martin- Green) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) are no strangers to battle, but this Thursday the two will be duking it out in a decidedly different kind of arena.

The two stars will be on this week’s Lip Sync Battle. The news was tweeted out last week by show’s host, NCIS: Los Angeles star (and I think maybe once a rapper?) LL Cool J.

Now, your first thought maybe “Awesome!” Followed quickly by “Wait, what?” While comically pretending to sing pop songs may have had humble (relatively speaking) beginnings as a game played by John Krasinski and Emily Blunt to entertain guests (and more famously a re- occurring game on Jimmy Fallon’s late night talk shows), it has become a bonafide stop for promotional tours since it premiered April of last year on Spike. Last November, Joseph Gordon- Levitt, Seth Rogen, and Anthony Mackie all starred in a special Christmas episode to promote their film The Night Before. The show has embraced the fun of matching co- stars, friends, and even spouses against each other, nabbing names as big as Channing and Jenna Dewan- Tatum.

All of this taken into account, Lip Sync Battle seems a slightly less unconventional place to promote Martin- Green and Cohan’s upcoming Walking Dead season 6 finale, which airs this Sunday on AMC. The two were in a 2014 episode of the after show Talking Dead and seemed to be, for lack of a better word, besties. Whether that’s enough to make one interested in seeing Sasha and Maggie Whip and Nae Nae rather than kill things is entirely up to the individual.

I’m personally still holding out for the Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Morgan (Lennie James) lip sync of “Ebony and Ivory”.

To be honest though, The Walking Dead probably doesn’t need any of the promotion. In its sixth season, everyone’s favorite post- apocalyptic zombie morality tale still averages over 15 million viewers a week. People are so crazy for it the trailer for next week’s finale reportedly leaked… on Saturday. One day early. They couldn’t wait one day! For a trailer!

To be fair, it was more than just a trailer. It’s fans first glimpse of the long- hyped appearance of big bad Neegan, played by Jeffery Dean Morgan. While last night still put off the highly anticipated arrival, we did get a small symbol of what’s to come.

I call her Lucy
