Valerie Bertinelli To Star Opposite Demi Lovato In NBC Comedy ‘Hungry’

Valerie Bertinelli (Hot in Cleveland) is making her return to scripted television with starring opposite Demi Lovato (Camp Rock) in the upcoming comedy pilot at NBC entitled Hungry, according to The Hollywood ReporterThe series follows two friends who attend a food issues support group.

Hungry, written and executive produced by Suzanne Martin (Hot in Cleveland), stars Bertinelli as Lisa, Teddy’s (Lovato) mom. Both characters have an immensely strong bond and refer to each other as best friends. Lisa has been described as “a self-critical and emotional mess who has lost and gained the same 30 pounds for 30 years,” via The Hollywood Reporter. Lisa’s ownership of a restaurant also makes her relationship with food even more complicated.

In the past, Bertinelli has opened up about her issues with food, specifically in a 2017 interview with People, “It’s about finding balance and the forgiveness for when the scale doesn’t say what you want it to say.” The actress currently hosts two Food Network shows, including Valerie’s Home Cooking and Kids Baking Championship.

Hungry was given a pilot order in April. Martin, Sean Hayes (Will & Grace), and Todd Milliner (Lazy Susan) will executive produce the NBC comedy together.
