USA’s upcoming soft-scripted comedy Donny! cast three new recurring roles.
Donny! stars Donny Deutsch, a famous advertising executive and former talk show host, playing a fictionalized version of himself. The show has been described as a Curb Your Enthusiasm type of sitcom. USA Network ordered six episodes of the half-hour series back in January, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The series will take a satirical look at various issues like media, modern romance, and wealth through the eyes of the fictionalized Donny. In the series, Donny is a single dad who hosts a daytime talk show called Donny! and his on-air presence is the opposite of how he actually is. In spite of good intentions and the team of women he has to help him stay out of trouble he still manages to make bad decisions, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The three new roles are for two of Donny’s assistants and his son, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned. Hailey Giles will play Donny’s top assistant Jackie. Jackie takes care of everything from crazy ex-wives to over-scheduled calendars. She manages finances, TV appearances, art, and Donny’s ego. She’s described as assertive and willing to make and win bets against Donny.
Jessica Renee Russell is set to play the newest assistant Violet. She is described as naïve and easy to please, always siding with Donny in an argument. She will gladly do menial tasks and take the insults thrown her way. Her personality tends to annoy her fellow assistants though.
Jacob Anderson is Donny’s nine-year-old son Jagger Deutsch. Jagger is described as a mature kid with a big heart. He is a tap dancer who often marches to his own beat. Despite Donny’s efforts to shield his youngest from the world, Jagger is the one who usually teaches his dad along the way.
Donny! is executive produced by Banks Tarver and Ken Druckerman and will premiere later this year on USA.
