‘Degrassi’ Canceled After 14 Seasons

After 14 seasons, Canada’s MTV is canceling the legendary drama, Degrassi: The Next Generation. 

From indie producer Epitome Pictures, the teen drama called Degrassi successfully launched the careers of some pretty famous people. Rapper Drake, 90210‘s Shenae Grimes and The L.A. Complex‘s Cassie Steele all got their start on this Canadian drama.

CTV’s president of sports and entertainment programming stated on Thursday, “We are immensely proud of Degrassi, and our longstanding partnership with [executive producers] Linda [Schuyler] and Stephen [Stohn]. We wish the entire Epitome team the best of luck, and look forward to working with them again in the future.”

Producer Epitome is led by Schuyler and Stohn. It was acquired in 2014 by DHX Media. Since 1980, this long running series has followed the dramatic adventures of Toronto high school students. The show exposes the everyday struggles of teens in school.

Degrassi is licensed in more than 140 territories around the world. In the U.S., it airs on TeenNick. According to The Hollywood ReporterDegrassi: The Next Generation has also been licensed to Amazon Prime for streaming in the U.S. market.

On July 20, the 14th and final season of Degrassi debuts on MTV in Canada.
