Upcoming Series ‘Murder by The Book’ Starring Retta Has Been Cancelled

Parks and Rec vet Retta was set to star in NBC’s new mystery series by the name of Murder by the Book; however, it has been scrapped. According to TVLine, the show would have brought together Jenna Bans (The Family, Off the Maps) and Bill Krebs (No Tomorrow, Red Band Society), the showrunner of Good Girls, another series in which Retta starred; however, this will not become a reality as the show has been put aside.

Last fall, the show was put in development and had its pilot ordered this January. The story was centered around a woman played by Retta, who was deeply fascinated with murder mystery books, and ultimately, these books help her as she “becomes an unlikely detective to uncover the shocking truths about an eccentric seaside town,” according to what would have been the show synopsis.

Retta was previously on Good Girls which she acted alongside Mae Whitman (The DUFF, Tinker Bell) and Christina Hendricks (Mad Men, Bad Santa 2). They also witnessed a similar fate to Murder by the Book as it too faced early scrapping just two years ago. Sometime earlier this year, NBC had also announced the halt and stop of production of other series it was planning to release. These series include St. Denis Medical, which was supposed to be a satirical comedy series that was depicted through the format of a mockumentary. Another series that was placed on the shelf was Non-Evil Twin, which was a comedy series that would have starred Amber Ruffin (The Amber Ruffin Show). Another series by the name of Wolf was also put to stop in production. This show would have starred Zachary Quinto (Heroes). The fate of this show is still left to be determined, until then fans must wait to hear any news regarding this show.
