Prime Video has released an official trailer for its documentary series called Killing Grounds: The Gilgo Beach Murders. The series will dive into the victims of those who died at the hands of the Long Island serial killer.
For those who don’t know, the documentary is made to shed light on the victims that were murdered near Gilgo Beach. The murderer was former Manhattan architect named Rex Heuermann. Heuermann had plead guilty to murdering eight victims that also included the Gilgo Four who were found in 2010, and brought an end to a long unsolved serial killer case. The series will consist of four episodes and will be directed by Emma Cooper (Who Killed Jill Dando?, Depp V Heard). According to the press release this was the synopsis for the series, “From 1996 to 2011, Gilgo Beach, New York, became the haunting site where 11 bodies were discovered, their deaths shrouded in mystery for years with no suspects identified. This chilling series unravels one of the most notorious criminal cases of our time, offering a comprehensive look at the investigation as new developments bring long-awaited answers closer into focus. The series arrives amid a major development in the case, as the primary suspect, Rex Heuermann, recently pleaded guilty to the murders of seven women and to causing the death of Karen Vergata—crimes that spanned decades and remained unsolved for years. His admission marks a significant turning point in a case that has long gripped the nation, bringing a measure of closure to victims’ families while underscoring the complexities and investigative breakthroughs that ultimately led to his arrest.”
The series has been produced by Eben Davidson (Arrival, Ben-Hur), Phil Donlon (Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D.), Matt Ochacher (City of Likes, Small Town Strong), Michael Pelmont (Paul Reiser: Life, Death and Rice Pudding), Brian Volk-Weiss (Jeff Dunham’s the Cars That Drove Us, Anthony Oakes: Sweet Little Oakes Boy), Cisco Henson (Bob the Drag Queen: This is Wild, A Future on Stage), and Miranda Soto (Ol’ Dirty Bastard: A Tale of Two Dirtys, Deep Water Salvage).
The documentary series is set to premiere on April 22, 2026.
