According to Deadline, Peacock has announced that the action comedy Twisted Metal has been renewed for third season with David Reed (The Boys, Supernatural) taking over as showrunner and executive producer following Michael Jonathan Smith’s (Cobra Kai, I Own You) exit. The streamer states that Smith was with the show for its first two seasons and has now “concluded his involvement as showrunner and executive producer.”
As per Deadline, *Spoilers ahead*, Twisted Metal is based on the popular PlayStation game series with the same name. The first season follows John Doe, a motor-mouthed outsider who is offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. The second season continues where the first season left off, with John and Quiet finding themselves entering the deadly Twisted Metal tournament, a sinister demolition derby hosted by a mysterious man known as Calypso. The finale of the second season sets up for the upcoming third season as John and Quiet prepare to take on Calypso after he frames the two of them for murder.
According to Deadline, the streamer has stated that the second season of the series “registered 993 million minutes viewed” on the streaming service, becoming their “second highest-reaching original returning scripted season.”
As per Deadline, Reed will be executive producing for the series alongside Rhett Reese (Zombieland, Once Upon a Deadpool) and Paul Wernick (Deadpool, Ghosted). Reed is a WGA Award-nominated writer, director and producer who is currently a writer and executive producer on Prime Video’s hit series The Boys. Will Arnett (Arrested Development, Super Team Canada) and Marc Forman (Always Open Game Chat) will also be executive producers with Anthony Mackie (8 Mile, Captain America: Brave New World) , Jason Spire (Outside the Wire, Operation Finale), Peter Principato (Key and Peele, Central Intelligence), Asad Qizilbash (The Last of Us, Gran Turismo) and Carter Swan (Until Dawn, Resident Evil).
