Trina McGee Breaks Silence On Why She Wasn’t In The ‘Boy Meets World’ Finale

Trina McGee of Boy Meets World fame recently reunited with her sitcom co-stars for the podcast, Pod Meets World. Pod Meets World is a podcast hosted by Danielle Fishel (Girl Meets World), Will Friedle (Kim Possible) and Rider Strong (Cabin Fever). They rewatch every episode of the iconic series, share memories, behind-the-scenes moments, and all the Boy Meets World stories a fan could ever want. McGee, who portrayed Angela Moore, finally revealed why she wasn’t in the series finale in 2000.

“This is some ground we have not covered”, McGee explained via Deadline. “I was told, in kind of a weird, off-handed way by a very important person, that you guys all went to [showrunner] Michael Jacobs, and you said, ‘We don’t want her in the last episode. She’s somehow taking our light.’ [That] was the gist of it,” McGee continued. “I was told that after I shot what was the show before the last episode, which was called ‘Angela’s Ashes’ when I left. When Michael announced to me, we’re going to do another show on Angela, I was so happy, not knowing this was going to be the show before the last show.”

According to Entertainment Tonight (ET), Strong, Fishel, and Friedle were shocked to hear about this during the podcast  and quickly said that McGee had been misled. Friedle said

“Can we say for the record Trina, that never happened,” Friedle, who played the eldest Matthews brother Eric, explained via ET. “That’s not competitiveness, that’s sociopathy. This pisses me off. This is the next level.”

“I believe you,” McGee responded via Deadline. “I can tell by your reactions. I have had that in my head for so long, and I’ve never watched that show. I’ve always felt like, ugh… That hurt me for a long time.” Although McGee believed the trio about this she pointed out that there were other instances during the filming of the series that left her feeling uncomfortable. McGee had felt an undercurrent of racism with certain remarks that were directed toward her. Once the showrunner Michael Jacobs referenced another black actress, telling Trina to “just turn down the Telma Hopkins about eight notches” when they thought she was being dramatic and one of her castmates compared her to  Aunt Jemima when she wore a red turban on her head.

Boy Meets World was a coming-of-age sitcom starring Ben Savage (Girl Meets World) as Cory Matthews as he grew through challenging scenarios and life lessons. Boy Meets World aired on ABC for seven seasons between September 1993 and May 2000.
