The highly anticipated Tomb Raider series which stars Sophie Turner (X-Men: Apocalypse, Game of Thrones) as the main character, Lara Croft, encountered an unexpected obstacle offscreen. According to Screenrant, the series first began as one of the high selling video game franchise, with several installments which focused o the journey of Lara Croft, who partake in deadly assignments to locate powerful artifacts. The first ever live version began back in 2001, who was portrayed by Angeline Jolie (Maleficent, The Eternals), and then Alicia Vikander (Jason Bourne, Ex Machinia) took over in 2018, and now it is Sophie’s turn to take up the mantle.
Reported by Screenrant, the production of the series was found to have broken multiple violation by the British Health and Safety Executive (HSE), with examples being that the drama series have broken safety law at Shinfield Studios; breached the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002, with Amazon having yet to adress the serious claims. The main issue centered on the use of isocyanate paints, as Project Temple Productions Ltd. failed numerous safety checks to determine if the cast could tolerate them.
Stated by Screenrant, the Tomb Raider series be directed and written by Phoebe Waller Bridge (Fleabag, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny), she will be working alongside Jonathan Van Tulleken (Shogun, Top Thief). Majority of the show’s infromation and plot has remained under lock and key, but with a outstanding actress like Sophie combined with Creativity of Phoebe, Tomb Raid has the chance to join other highly acclaimed game titles such as Fallout and The Last of Us.
Despite these minor setbacks, production on the Tomb Raider series has officially commenced. While an exact premiere date has not been finalized, industry projections point toward a 2027 or 2028 debut. Fans are awaiting in anticpation on the newest journey that Lara will be partaking on and the enemy she will face along the way.
