Tom Hiddleston (Loki, The Avengers) is starring in a new adventure drama series on Apple TV, announced in a story by Variety. Based on nonfiction book of the same name from author David Grann (Killers of the Flower Moon), The White Darkness tells the true story of Henry Worsley (played by Hiddleton): husband, father, soldier, and Antarctic explorer. Having died in 2016 after narrowly failing to accomplish his goal of being the first person to cross from one Antarctic coastline to another, his story has been inspiring to many prospective adventures and fellow humans in awe of his courage.
The announcement can be seen covered below in a tweet by Apple Insider:
Soo Hugh (Pachinko) will serve as executive producer alongside Theresa Kang-Lowe (Pachinko), Caroline Garity, and Mark Heyman (Black Swan) while also serving as a showrunner and writer. While not much else is known about the show beyond its star casting and streaming network, it is highly speculated that the series will maintain a documentary-esc tone and stay as true to real-life events as possible, so to be respectful to Worsely’s legacy.
A premiere date for the upcoming limited series has not yet been set.
