After a long delay, Amazon Prime Video released the third season of its political thriller, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, on December 21. According to Screen Rant, the series will conclude with a fourth season set for a 2023 release.
Season four of Jack Ryan, based on the books of the same name by author Tom Clancy (The Sum of All Fears, Rainbow Six), was announced to be the final season of the series this past May while production for season three was still ongoing. The three-year jump between season two (2019) and season three (2022) is attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic. Krasinski is reportedly signed on to continue his work in the fourth season, in addition to acting as showrunner.
Season three jumps three years from the end of season two, where protagonist Jack Ryan discovers U.S. government corruption during an election in Venezuela. In season three, the setting shifts to Russia. John Krasinksi (A Quiet Place, The Office) serves as executive producer and comes back as the fifth actor to portray Jack Ryan. Michael Kelly (Man of Steel, Now You See Me) and Wendell Pierce (The Wire, Horrible Bosses) reprise their roles as former CIA Officer Mike November and CIA Officer James Greer, respectively. Season three newcomers include Betty Gabriel (Get Out, The Purge: Election Year) as CIA Rome Station Chief Elizabeth Wright and Nina Hoss (Barbara, Phoenix) as Czech President Alena Kovac.
According to Screen Rant, “Jack Ryan season 3’s ending set up some aspects of season 4 but gave no hint of what the story will be and what Ryan’s final adventure will entail. The returning cast for Jack Ryan season 4 will include John Krasinski as Jack Ryan, Wendell Pierce as James Greer, Michael Kelly as Mike November, and Noomi Rapace is expected to reprise Harry Bauman, the spy she played in Jack Ryan season 2. In addition, Abbie Cornish is back as Dr. Cathy Mueller, who is destined to be Jack Ryan’s wife but hasn’t appeared in the series since season 1.”
A spin-off of the show starring Michael Peña (American Hustle, Crash) as Domingo “Ding” Chavez is currently in the works. In Clancy’s book franchise, Ding Chavez is a soldier who was recruited by the CIA and later worked for a secret organization called The Campus.
Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan season three is streaming on Amazon Prime Video now.
