Snowpiercer spoilers below!
The TNT drama entitled Snowpiercer has officially been renewed for its third season, days before its second season premiere, according to Variety. An early renewal was also given for the show’s second season, being renewed more than a year before its initial air.
Based on Bong Joon Ho’s (Parasite) movie under the same name, Snowpiercer is set on a thousand-car train which holds the last remaining signs of humanity following a climate disaster which results in a new ice age. The first season concluded with the discovery that there was a second train carrying other passengers. The series stars Daveed Diggs (Hamilton), Jennifer Connelly (Requiem for a Dream), Alison Wright (The Accountant), Mickey Sumner (Frances Ha), and Iddo Goldberg (Peaky Blinders). Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) and Rowan Blanchard (Girl Meets World) will join the series as regulars for the upcoming second season.
The series initially went into development in 2015, when a pilot was ordered in late 2016, and was ordered to series in 2018. WarnerMedia considered moving the show to TBS in 2019 but eventually decided to move it back to TNT, later premiering in 2020. Graeme Manson (Orphan Black), Marty Adelstein (Hanna), Becky Clements (Hanna), Matthew O’Connor (Continuum), Ben Rosenblatt (Alienist), Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange), and Christoph Schrewe (The Conclave) executive produce.
