A major update bombshell on the highly anticipated upcoming season to the famous sci-fi series, Doctor Who was revealed by its showrunner Russel Davies (Torchwood, The Giggle). According to Screenrant, Russel has stated in interview with Newsround that they will take a little hiatus between this season and future ones to come. The entire confersavtion can be seen below.
I kind of know that the Doctor’s reached the status of, like, Robin Hood.
Sometimes there might be a pause, and during that pause, the viewers of Newsround now will grow up a few years and start writing stories and they’ll bring it back.
So I have absolute faith that it will survive because I am living proof of it and that’s what happens to good ideas. No good idea ever dies.
According to mxdwn, this season will count as Ncuti Gatwa’s (Sex Education, Black and Scottish) second time playing the Doctor, but he won’t be alone, as he will be joined by his new companion, Belinda, played by Varada Sethu (Hard Sun, Andor), and cameos from Ruby Sunday, played by Millie Gibson (Coronation Street, Butterfly). This season is set to contain the same blend of kooky and action that the series is known for.
According to Screenrant, this isn’t the first time the show has taken a lengthy hiatus; in 2021, for example, season 13 paused for three years before continuing. This extended break has been interpreted by some as a significant danger for the program and may indicate that the franchise is struggling.
This prospect of a long hiatus for such a renowned show, will leave Whovians around the world speculate on the franchise’s future and what caused this sudden pause. According to Screenrant, while fans await further news, they can look forward to this upcoming season of Doctor Who which is scheduled to premier on April 12, as well as rewatch the entire first season on Disney+.
