Three NBC Newcomer Series Canceled, 'Manifest' Renewed

NBC comedies Sunnyside, Indebted, as well as drama Bluff City Law will not return as the network continues to slim, down their upcoming scripted lineup according to The Hollywood Reporter. Monday night, NBC gave a third-season to drama Manifest.

Manifest is a production among Warner Bros. TV and Universal TV. The Supernatural drama revolves around a family flying on a commercial airliner, finding themselves 5 years into the future when the plane lands. The show targets the passenger’s struggles to essentially catch up with all they have left behind, being presumed dead.

The series was created by Jeff Rake (The Mysteries of Laura) , and stars Melissa Roxburgh (Diary of a Wimpy Kid) and Josh Dallas (Once Upon a Time). Manifest earned an average rating of 1.5 while pulling in 7.7 million viewers via The Hollywood Reporter.

Simultaneously, the 10- episode drama Bluff City Law, starring Jimmy Smits (L.A. Law), was halted regardless of a request for more scripts ahead of the episode’s release. Comedy Sunnyside, featuring Kal Penn (House) alongside executive producer Mike Schur (The Office), was NBC’s lowest-rated first-year series of the 2019-20 television season. Consequently, Sunnyside series wrapped up on streaming network Hulu as well as NBC’s online platforms.

Indebted, was NBC’s family comedy series. The series had a negative turnout upon arrival in February. Indebted brought in a totaling 1.6 million viewers with a 0.4 average rating according to The Variety.
