The Young and the Restless, CBS’s most watched daytime drama for 31 consecutive seasons, will be returning to air with new episodes starting August 10. The daytime drama is the second of CBS’s soaps to resume filming during the COVID-19 pandemic with the other being The Bold and the Beautiful, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Bold and the Beautiful returned to set a month before The Young and the Restless team, which made the soap one of the first shows to resume studio production. As of July 20, The Bold and the Beautiful began airing new episodes after four weeks of filming. The Young and the Restless is on a similar timeline and was reported to have resumed filming on July 14, via The Hollywood Reporter.
The continuing rise in Los Angeles COVID-19 cases has not halted the return of the shows. Cast and crew are following social distancing and proper sanitation guidelines. Regular COVID-19 tests have also been administered and masks are worn with the exception of actors during their on-camera scenes.
The Young and the Restless is the last of the daytime soap trio, including ABC’s General Hospital, to return to air as new episodes of General Hospital are expected to begin August 3. Days of Our Lives had enough episodes filmed to deliver new programming through September with a potential September 1 restart on NBC.
As of January, The Young and the Restless was renewed for the 2023-24 season. Daily episodes can be seen at 12:30pm ET on CBS. This week of The Young and the Restless reruns all contain shocking moments, so it was deemed OMG Week. The preview video can be seen below:
