If two successful series isn’t enough for fans of The Walking Dead franchise, AMC is now planning a special about the walkers.
Entertainment Weekly broke the exclusive story about the stand-alone special. The special is set to look at the outbreak happening on a plane. It will rewind to one of the first outbreaks and up the stakes by enclosing everyone on a flight. The story will follow the passengers facing a walker attack while the plane is in the air.
In the past, AMC has released stand-alone content similar to this as a part of the web series. What’s different this time is that one of the characters from this special is going to become a character on Fear The Walking Dead. One of the survivors from the flight will meet up with the main characters of the spinoff series in its second season.
The stand-alone will debut online but it will also be aired during The Walking Dead‘s on-air telecasts. Essentially, before commercial breaks during The Walking Dead, AMC will air a chapter of this special. There’s no title for this project yet and details beyond setting are being kept secret for now. No word on how many episodes the special will air across or what characters will be introduced.
If Fear The Walking Dead is any indication though, the special will probably be well received. We reported on here about how the premiere of the spinoff series broke cable records.
The Walking Dead will return for its sixth season this October. Meanwhile, Fear The Walking Dead is currently airing on Sunday nights.
