Scott M. Gimple according to Deadline will guide the future of The Walking Dead and breathe life into the expanding franchise with yet another spin off in the works. As the CCO (Chief Content Officer) of AMC’s The Walking Dead, he recently gave a rundown on the series’s future expectations and even touched on the spin off in the interview. Currently, he’s looking out for three television franchises: The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, and the soon to be show. Working with Matt Negrete, a writer and producer for TWD, he explains how they’re filming in Virginia and will likely premiere sometime in 2020.
Although they’ve already created a spin off once, TWD isn’t going to stop there; a second show is already official. So far, little is known, not even the title– but we do have a released trailer courtesy of New York Comic Con. The show will follow a group of teenagers born in the plague ridden world of walkers nearly a decade after the apocalypse. For many, it seems like a promising coming of age depiction in the well established universe, leaving fans to hope for more connections to the main show.
TWD‘s Chris Hardwick hosted the panel with Scott. M Gimple andMatt Negrete, producer Robert Kirkman, and fellow cast members of the show. Stated previously, very little is known; it seems like they’re willing to tease in order to generate some discussion. With that said, there is only one thing we’re pretty sure about. That is, the show will be featured in the same timeline as TWD, and it’s also going to continue where Rick left off.
As for the panel on TWD, fans are in high hopes after seeing the trailer. The zombie apocalypse universe will take a leap of faith in another spin off with a fresh coming of age perspective, leading to possibilities of crossovers and more of what they already love. As one of the most lucrative television shows in history, many hold it to another standard. So far, the excellent novels and games of the franchise have reassured us with keeping the series on track. Fans will keep their eyes out in 2020 and heed the early stages of the show’s progress as more news is delivered.
