CNN has reported that the man who allegedly killed Jonathan Joss (The Magnificent Seven, True Grit) admitted his actions to the police, stating, “I shot him.” Joss was 59 and died outside his home, as per the San Antonio Police Department.
CNN confirms that there was a witness, whose name is being redacted, that told police that she allegedly drove Joss to his home, which had recently been burned down. She reported that they had arrived at the home to check the mail.
CNN goes on to claim that the witness made a statement that after arriving at the home, the suspect, Sigfredo Ceja, allegedly pulled right up behind them. He then exited his vehicle and began to argue with Joss. She claims that things immediately escalated as she allegedly heard the suspect say that he had a gun and would shoot. The weapon is being reported as a rifle.
The investigation is ongoing. Ceja has been arrested on suspicion of murder. Fox 7 reports that Ceja has been released on bond and is currently under house arrest. They report that Bexar County Court Records show his bond was set at $200,000. The conditions of his bond is that he will be subject to random drug testing and not allowed to possess any firearms or in any way try to contact the Joss family. A pre-trial hearing has been set for August 19th.
In a statement on Joss’s Facebook page, his husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, who was also at the scene when the incident occurred, made a post about what happened. He claims that Ceja made homophobic slurs before he allegedly shot Joss. He also claims that Joss is nothing less than a hero, as he allegedly pushed de Gonzales out of the way when the shot was fired and saved his life. De Gonzales also maintains that he and his husband had been allegedly dealing with threats from those in the neighborhood who could not accept that they are in a same sex relationship. He states in the post that their three dogs had been burned in the house fire, as Joss allegedly claimed when he interrupted the panel for the new King of the Hill reboot panel at the ATX TV Festival in Austin. He says that when they arrived, they allegedly saw that someone had placed the skull of one of their dogs in plain sight. He claims that this is what excited them and led them to begin yelling and crying from severe emotional distress.
CNN also reported that many calls had been made to the location. Police were called to both houses of Ceja and Joss, with a few being welfare checks at the Joss home. Many of the other calls were noted as “Disturbance Neighbor.”
SAPD Homicide is currently investigating the murder of Mr. Jonathan Joss. Despite online claims of this being a hate crime, currently the investigation has found no evidence to indicate that the Mr. Joss’s murder was related to his sexual orientation.

They say that there is no evidence that the murder was related to his sexual orientation.
