Angela Kinsey, the actress behind The Office’s misanthropic Angela, shared a positive COVID-19 result with her fans on Instagram early this week. The actress has been extremely open about the virus’ toll on her family, as her children and husband became ill last week. Despite her caution, Kinsey shared that she “knew the odds were against” her, as she was “living with 4 Covid positive people” (People).
The actress and co-host of the Office Ladies podcast has remained both open and good-natured about her symptoms, even sharing a comedic text that her former costar Oscar Nunez (The Office, Mr. Iglesias) sent her regarding her loss of taste and smell on Instagram. Kinsey shared, in the caption of her Instagram post, that Nunez also dropped off soup for her on New Year’s Day. Nunez is far from the only The Office cast member who has reached out to cheer Kinsey up upon her diagnosis. Mindy Kaling (The Mindy Project, The Office), Ellie Kemper (The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Bridesmaids) and Kate Flannery (The Office, Steven Universe) all passed along well wishes on Kinsey’s initial Instagram post.
A majority of Kinsey’s year has been spent quarantining with her family and recording The Office-recap podcast Office Ladies with Jenna Fischer (The Office, Walk Hard: The Dewy Cox Story). The actress’ podcast partner, who played receptionist Pam on the beloved comedy, expressed her wishes to be with Kinsey in-person after hearing the news, via Instagram. In lieu of that scenario, Fischer settled on sending her co-host amusing videos, according to her Instagram comment.
Yesterday’s Office Ladies podcast episode featured an audio farewell to 2020 from a portion of the NBC sitcom’s ensemble cast, including Steve Carrell (The 40-Year-Old Virgin, The Big Short), John Krasinski (A Quiet Place, The Office) and Ed Helms (The Hangover, The Office). When the podcast’s official Instagram posted the excerpt of the New Year’s message, they added: “this New Year’s greeting was recorded earlier this month”. Addressing Kinsey’s diagnosis and recovery, the Office Ladies Instagram added: “Angela is home resting and on the mend. Thanks for your well wishes!”
Aside from her Dunder Mifflin co-workers, plenty of other fans and friends piled on their support for Kinsey and her family. Jennifer Garner (Alias, Juno) commented on the actresses’ Instagram, sharing her sympathies as a mother. The Office has played significant role in Garner’s year, as the actress and her family watched an episode a day of the series during the pandemic.
The news of Kinsey’s diagnosis came during the final week in which The Office would be stream-able on Netflix. Now fans who want to enjoy the series and revisit Kinsey’s character Angela can turn to Peacock and their 24-hour streaming channel of the series. In the meantime, hopefully the Kinsey family’s recovery remains swift as the coronavirus continues to strain the entertainment industry and world-at-large.
