One of television’s favorite accountants is returning to NBC primetime. According to TVLine, Oscar Nunez (The Office) is set to appear in several upcoming episodes of NBC’s hit comedy musical series, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.
Nunez is set to play Dr. Tesoro who will become Zoey’s therapist as she tries to improve her mental health. According to TVLine, Nunez’s gentle nature and calm persona will assist Zoey as she tries to manage her personal relationships, her grief, and her unique abilities.
When speaking about Zoey’s journey into therapy and quest for self betterment, showrunner Austin Winsberg (producer, Gossip Girl) stated “she’s going to realize that perhaps she needs more help than she realized, and that’s going to send her into therapy.” (TVLine) Winsberg also hinted that Dr. Tereso’s involvement in Zoey’s life will lead to some unexpected but extremely important narrative lines moving forward in the show.
Nunez is best known for playing Oscar Martinez on The Office for nine years, via TVLine. Additionally, Nunez has starred in Mr. Iglesias, People of Earth, Benched, as well as appearing in several State Farm commercials.
Now well into its second season, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist has garnered some critical attention due to unique blend of drama, comedy, and of course, musical numbers. The series’ own Jane Levy (Suburgatory) was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for her performance as Zoey. According to the show’s IMDb page, it additionally won a Primetime Emmy for Best Choreography for Scripted Programming, which was presented to fellow NBC alum Mandy Moore (This Is Us).
