The Night King Has ‘A Target’ in Season 8 of HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’

In part with an extensive editorial on Game of Thrones season 8, EW was able to capture an interview with Vladimir Furdik, the stunt-man turned actor who will reprise his role as the Night King in a mere month from now in what will be the hit-series go-home season. He kept his lips sealed for the most part, as is expected from any part of the crew that worked on one of the more anticipated stories of the summer. But, he did tease a part of his character’s motivation, and the killing of a particular person that might be the Night King’s reasoning for crossing the wall, besides human extinction of course.

Furdick talked about the character, stating: “Somebody made him the Night King. Nobody knows who he was before — a soldier or part of [nobility]. He never wanted to be the Night King. I think he wants revenge. Everybody in this story has two sides — a bad side and a good side. The Night King only has one side, a bad side,” the actor explained.

He would go on to say: “People will see he has a target he wants to kill, and you will find out who that is. There’s also that moment [in “Hardhome”] when Jon Snow was on the boat and the Night King looked at him and raised his arms — there’s a similar and even stronger moment between Jon and the Night King this time.”

It’s worth mentioning that, despite his origins being established in Season 7, not much is known about the leader of the White-Walker rebellion. But the vengeful aspect makes sense when considering that he would have been the first man captured by the Children of the Forest, turning him into something that he, presumably, never wanted to become. We won’t know for sure until season 8 arrives though, so be sure to tune into Game of Thrones on April 14, exclusively on HBO, and watch the great game come to its bitter-sweet end.
