Netflix has released a new teaser for Scooby-Doo: Origins, giving fans their first look at the franchise’s iconic Great Dane in live action. According to Netflix Tudum, the series will mark the first time Scooby-Doo appears as a real dog, introducing a new take on the beloved character when the show premieres in 2027.
The teaser follows Scooby as he wanders through the woods before spotting Shaggy Rogers, played by Tanner Hagen (The Bondsman, Found). The clip concludes with the first clear look at the live-action Great Dane, wearing his signature teal collar, as his future best friend holds him.
The series serves as an origin story for Mystery Inc., following Shaggy and Daphne Blake, played by McKenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Afterlife, The Handmaid’s Tale), during their final summer at camp. According to Tudum, the pair become involved in a mystery surrounding a lost Great Dane puppy that may have witnessed a supernatural murder.
As the mystery unfolds, they are joined by Velma Dinkley, portrayed by Abby Ryder Fortson (Ant-Man, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.), and Fred Jones, played by Maxwell Jenkins (Lost in Space, Arcadian). Together, the group investigates a case that threatens to expose their deepest secrets while ultimately bringing Mystery Inc. together for the first time.
Paul Walter Hauser (Black Bird, Richard Jewell) has also joined the cast in an undisclosed role. Production on the series began in Atlanta this April.
mxdwn has followed the development of Netflix’s live-action Scooby-Doo project since its early stages. One earlier report focused on the streamer officially ordering the series, revealing that the project would explore how the members of Mystery Inc. first met and became a team. That announcement confirmed Netflix’s plans to reimagine the classic franchise with a younger, more grounded origin story.
More recently, mxdwn covered the reveal of the show’s official title, Scooby-Doo: Origins, as well as the first cast photo featuring Hagen, Grace, Fortson, and Jenkins. The newly released teaser builds on that announcement by finally introducing audiences to Scooby himself and offering a closer look at the mystery that drives the series.
Behind the scenes, the show is executive produced by Josh Appelbaum (Citadel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Scott Rosenberg (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Venom), and Greg Berlanti (You, Arrow). Toby Haynes (Andor, Black Mirror) will direct the premiere episode.
With production underway and the first footage now released, Scooby-Doo: Origins is giving fans their clearest look yet at Netflix’s live-action take on the beloved mystery-solving gang.
