Tvline reports that Netflix’s upcoming live-action Scooby Doo series is called a retelling and is going to be just that. Production is in Altanta, Ga and called Scooby Doo: Origins.
According to Tvline, the cast includes Tanner Hagen (The Pitt, Be Careful What You Say) who plays Shaggy Rogers, McKenna Grace (Young Sheldon, Gifted) who plays Daphne Blake, Abby Ryder Fortson (The Pitt, Ant-Man and the Wasp) who plays Velma Dinkley, and Maxwell Jenkins (The Bondsman, A Family Man) who plays Fred Jones. The cast announcement was followed up with the first photo of the cast. However, the look of the main character Scooby is unknown, but it does show a paw print, so that means it could be Scooby or Scrappy.
Tvline writes that “Scooby Doo-Origins” has been described by Netflix as a “modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog. During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
Josh Applebaum (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol) and Scott Rosenberg (Disturbing Behavior, Beautiful Girls) are going to write and serve as the showrunners of “Scooby-Doo: Origins,” producing for the show alongside Greg Berlanti (Dawson’s Creek, Brothers & Sisters), Sarah Schechter (Dark Shadows, Invictus), and Leigh London Redman (Gotham Knights, Dead Boy Detectives) for Berlanti Productions; André Nemec (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Jeff Pinkner) , and Adrienne Erickson (From, High Fidelity) for Midnight Radio; and Toby Haynes (Doctor Who, Sherlock), who is also directing Episode 1.
