HBO announced that it is currently developing a series adaptation of Dave Eggers’ (The Circle) novel The Every, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The novel served as a sequel to Eggers’ 2013 book The Circle, which was adapted into the 2017 film starring Emma Watson (Harry Potter) and Tom Hanks (The Terminal).
If the potential series follows suit with its novel, The Every will follow the journey of a woman to take down the world’s largest tech company – The Every – from the inside, after its merge with the planet’s most renowned e-commerce site and becomes the most wealthy corporation in the world. The Circle followed Mae Holland’s dark experience initially joining the powerful Internet company. The Every was published in October 2021.
“In this equally terrifying and hilarious cautionary tale, Dave Eggers show us the increasing cost of the frictionless life that technology enables,” HBO Programming Executive Vice President Amy Gravitt said, per The Hollywood Reporter. “As he writes, ‘Nothing described herein actually happened, though much of it likely will,’ and what better starting point for an HBO comedy script?”
Emmy-winner Rachel Axler (Veep) and Eggers will executive produce the series alongside David Miner (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt). While Axler is most well known for her role producing HBO’s Veep, she has also been recognizing for being on the writing staff for Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, Parks and Recreation and New Girl.
