The CW’s ‘Powerpuff Girls’ Pilot Releases First Look

The CW has released its first official look at their Powerpuff Girls pilot, entitled Powerpuff, according to VarietyThe series was announced as being in development back in August and stars Chloe Bennet (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) as Blossom, Dove Cameron (Descendants) as Bubbles, and Yana Perrault in her debut role as Buttercup.

Based on the well-known Cartoon Network series created by Craig McCracken (Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends), Powerpuff will follow the same pint-sized superheroes – only now they’re fully grown adults full of resentment at having lost their childhoods to crimefighting. The series is said to only show the characters in their typical costumes in flashbacks to their teenage years. The three stars recently released their first look into the production of Powerpuff. An image, posted to various social media platforms, shows the actors in character.

Each Cartoon Network character had specific characteristics and sets of skills that set them apart from the rest. Blossom is described by Variety as being a “spunky, conscientious, Little-Miss-Perfect child who holds several advanced degrees, but her repressed kiddie-superhero trauma has left her feeling anxious and reclusive, and she aims to become a leader again – this time on her own terms.” Meanwhile, Bubbles maintains her status as the charming yet tough member of the bunch. Buttercup is the opposite of both, being rebellious while still the sensitive member of the Powerpuff Girls.

Donald Faison (Clueless) has also been cast as Professor Utonium, the girls’ father, while Nicholas Podany (Hart of Dixie) has been cast as the girls’ nemesis, Mojo Jojo. Further casting for the upcoming The CW show has not been announced, but fans eagerly wait for further announcements regarding the pilot, such as production content and even a potential trailer.
