The CW just released a new trailer for their new DC Comics show Gotham Knights. The show is set to premiere on March 14, following the season three premiere of Superman & Lois, according to Comicbook.
Unfortunately for The CW and the new show, according to Comicbook, there has been a wave of fan backlash after the trailer’s release. DC Comics fans have been criticizing the show for the way it portrayed fan-favorite superhero Batman in the new trailer. The trailer has a blink-and-you-miss-it scene of the caped vigilante in which the voiceover explains that Batman has been murdered. Fans have made fun of the scene because the person shown is wearing a three-piece suit and the Batman cowl.
According to Comicbook, the backlash comes from what fans feel is a disrespect of the popular DC character. There have been comments made by fans that the “suit” this version of Batman is wearing looks cheap and nothing like other Batsuits The CW has used in other appearances of Batman in the other DC shows.
While some fans are focusing on the lack of quality of the Batman suit, other fans are defending the show and the trailer by saying that maybe that scene is being used to mislead the audience, or that the person shown in the trailer isn’t really Batman. Either way, the fans, and the audience will have to wait until the premiere of the show to find out if it’s really Batman or not.
Gotham Knights follows the chaos that ensues in the wake of Bruce Wayne’s murder and the implications it brings for all of Gotham. In the aftermath, Bruce’s rebellious adopted son, Turner Hayes, played by Oscar Morgan (Millie Inbetween, Peaceful), forms an allegiance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for the murder of the Caped Crusader. This renegade band of misfits becomes the city’s most wanted criminals and now must fight to clear their names. Without the Dark Knight, the city becomes a very dangerous place. However, hope comes from the most unexpected places as this team of mismatched fugitives will become the next generation of saviors.
According to Comicbook, the cast of the show also includes Anna Lore (They/Them, All American) who will be playing Stephanie Brown, Olivia Rose Keegan (Days of Our Lives, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series) will star as Duela Dent, Navia Robinson (Raven’s Home, Free Rain) will play Carrie Kelley, Fallon Smythe (Most Likely to Murder, S.H.R.I.E.K.) as Harper Row, Tyler DiChiara (The Virgin of Highland Park, Relish) will be playing Cullen Row, Deja Dee (Panhandle, Gigi & Nate) will be starring as Commissioner Soto, Misha Collins (Supernatural, Encounter) will play villain Harvey Dent, Damon Dayoub (Monarch, NCIS) as Lincoln March, Lauren Stamile (Burn Notice, Grey’s Anatomy) will play Rebecca March and Rahart Adam (Shadows, Foursome) will be portraying Brody March.
