The CW’s ‘Arrow’ Showrunner Beth Schwartz Will Bring Back Some Familiar Faces For the Farewell Season

The CW’s Arrow began filming Thursday for their first episode of the eighth and final season. Stephen Amell took to Instagram to post a clapper board for their last season premiere. That episode will be titled “Starling City” which goes back to the first three seasons where it was the name of Oliver’s city before changing to Star City.

Season Eight’s logline reads: “Oliver will find himself pit against his most challenging battle yet, one that will leave the multiverse hanging in the balance. In Arrow’s final season, Oliver Queen is forced to confront the reality of what it means to be a hero.”

Showrunner Beth Schwartz is preparing for “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” but also giving each character a proper finish.

“There are so many characters [to consider]. So many characters,” Schwartz explained. “And we’re definitely thinking about all of that, because just as much as our fans want to see it, as people who have been on the show for a long time, we are also fans of these characters. So we’re going to make sure that everyone has a great final season.”

We’ll be seeing some familiar faces with the return of Tommy Merlyn (Colin Donnell) and Adrian Chase/Prometheus (Josh Segarra).

“Adrian Chase comes back in a different way than expected,” Schwartz said. “We’re really excited about that because obviously he’s one of our favorite villains.”

Executive producer Marc Guggenheim revealed that Oliver’s best friend, Tommy, is “not coming back as the Tommy we know.”

Fans can expect the farewell season to be full of surprises and shocking twists.

“That’s the exciting part of next season, only having 10 episodes,” Schwartz revealed. “We’ve [been] brainstorming and thinking about who we want back, because there are so many characters that we love… I think every episode is just going to be humongous. We’re going to fit it all in, and it’s definitely going to be an amazing season.”

Arrow returns Tuesday, October 15 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
