The CW Makes Headway On ‘The Lost Boys’ TV Series Adaptation

Back in early May, the CW picked up a pilot order for a television series adaptation of the cult classic, The Lost Boys, which has only recently been able to gain new headway amongst changes in previous castings. Warner Bros. TV subsequently released the pilot’s complete cast list with the exception of actors Medalion Rahimi and Dakota Shapiro, whose options have been extended.

The pair are amongst the few original pilot’s cast members, that have been confirmed to go on to star in the reworked pilot, which has been confirmed to start filming by the end of the year. The network originally worked with Rob Thomas to pen a script for the adaptation during the 2016-2017 development season. But after it didn’t get picked up, the series was retooled by writer Heather Mitchell.

The Lost Boys was a 1987 American horror comedy film directed by Joel Schumacher, which starred Corey Haim, Jason Patric, Kiefer Sutherland, Jami Gertz, Corey Feldman, Dianne Wiest, Edward Herrmann, Alex Winter, Jamison Newlander, and Barnard Hughes. The story followed two brothers, after they moved to a fictional town named Santa Clara, California and subsequently get into trouble with the local vampire gang.

Different elements such as casting and execution, allegedly failed to impress the network and subsequently led to the CW’s decision to re-pilot the entire project— possibly replacing Catherine Hardwicke as pilot director in the process. Originally, Rio Mangini (Everything Sucks) and Del Zamora (Mayans MC) were cast as series regulars, alongside Teen Wolf alum Tyler Posey and actress Kiele Sanchez.

Shapiro plays the character David, which was portrayed by Kiefer Sutherand in the 1987 film, while Rahimi is still set to play Stella, a version of the Star character played by Jami Gertz. Mitchell executive produces the series as well, in partnership with Rob Thomas and Dan Etheridge of Spondoolie. Mike Karz and Bill Bindley of Gulfstream work with Spondoolie’s producer Rebecca Franko.

The new reboot took place after the recent death of two brother’s father —Michael and Sam Emerson— and the following family’s move to Santa Carla. Their mother, Lucy hopes to start a new life in the town she grew up, but unfortunately the two young boys soon find trouble in the town’s undead fellow youth.
