The Concept Art of Marvel’s Loki Shows A Completely New Version Of A Beloved Character

This second season of Marvel’s Loki was full of plot twists and new characters, one of them being Ouroboros, an agent from the Time Variance Authority who works for the Repairs and Advancement department at the bottom of the TVA building. According to Comicbook, concept artist Aleski Briclot (The Art of Remember Me, Merlin, Spawn: Simony) released an early concept art of the character in a post on Instagram. View the post below.

Aleski described the concept art in the post: “Old fashion mechanic jumpsuit. Orange overall (the color of the Time Variance Authority in the show) with some hints of complementary color: blue. This guy has an Ouroboros snake pattern tattooed on his head. I tried to avoid being too obvious so I made it small like some thin crown. The « recycle » logo on the wall is also a nod to the character: the giant snake/dragon eating its own tail. And I made him blind like he’s looking at the universe and all the time variation with some kind of third eye or another sense.” via Comicbook.

During the season, it was revealed to the viewers that “O.B.” was the one who wrote the guidebook in the first place, which all TVA agents used to train. This was inspired by the work of Victor Timely, who he was a big fan of. O.B. was a phenomenally written character, which made MCU fans love him. But what truly contributed to the character’s popularity was shown by the talented and charismatic performance of Oscar-winning actor Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once, Goonies). Everything about this character made fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe want to see him again in future MCU projects.

This season gave a final episode that seemed to wrap up Loki’s story. Tom Hiddleston (The Night Manager, High Rise, The Essex Serpent), in an exclusive interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, has explained how the character’s heroic act seemed to fit with his 14-year journey coming to a conclusion. “It’s the conclusion of season two. It’s also the conclusion to seasons one and two. It’s also the conclusion to six films and 12 episodes and 14 years of my life. I was 29 when I was cast, I’m 42 now. it’s been a journey. I do think in the finale there are echoes and resonances of every version of Loki that I’ve played. And I think, without spoiling, the episode is called ‘Glorious Purpose.’ If you remember in the first Avengers film, Loki comes down to Earth. Look straight at Sam Jackson. There’s Nick Fury and I say ‘I’m Loki of Asgard. I’m burdened with glorious purpose.’ And he’s arrogant and he’s hubristic and he’s entitled and is puffed up and he’s going to take over the world.” Hiddleston stated, via ComicBook.

“At the beginning of season one, Mobius, played by Owen Wilson, the best ever, he basically shows Loki that the glorious purpose was a fallacy and he gets kind of a second chance. And that I think was the most exciting thing about this show was seeing Loki try to rethink and rediscover that sense of purpose, which we can all relate to. I think we all wonder if we’re in charge of our own story, can a leopard change its spots? Do we have any freewill? And in exercising your free will you make choices in your own life, either you get a black coffee or a latte or a cappuccino. that’s a choice. I mean, it’s a small choice. Every choice you make adds up to the picture of your life and do those choices inform your purpose and I think all of us as people want happy lives, but that we also want lives with a purpose. And that’s really what the show is talking about.” Hiddleston continued, via ComicBook.

Loki season 2 is streaming on Disney+ with Loki season one available on physical media.
