‘The Chi’ & ‘Black Monday’ Join New Comedy ‘Flatbush Misdemeanors’ For May Premiere Date at Showtime

New seasons of Showtime’s drama The Chi and comedy Black Monday have received a summer premiere date. According to Deadline, the two shows will drop brand new episodes on May 23. Joining the established shows will be the new half-hour comedy, Flatbush Misdemeanors. 

Flatbush Misdemeanors comes from creators and series’ leads Kevin Iso (Beware of Dog, Alexander IRL) and Dan Perlman (Cramming, Lovewatch), via Deadline. The two also serve as writers and executive producers of the show which is based on a series of shorts the pair created. The show follows Kevin and Dan as long-time friends navigating their intimate community in Brooklyn. Iso and Perlman are joined by Avalon’s Richard Allen-Turner (Breeders, Catastrophe), Jon Thoday (Taskmaster, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver), David Martin (Doug, Workaholics), and Chole Pisello (Ghost Hunt, Dickeys) as executive producers. Show director Justin Tipping (Kicks, Lowriders) will also executive produce with showrunner Nastaran Dibai (Happily Divorced, Friends with Better Lives).

According to DeadlineFlatbush Misdemeanors will premiere at 10:30 p.m. following the season three premiere of Black Monday. Starring Don Cheadle (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Space Jam 2) and Regina Hall (Support the Girls, First Sunday), the period comedy follows a scrupulous group of investment bankers in the late 80s whose shady dealings contributed to the catastrophic stock crash of 1987. The 10-episode season boasts a colorful cast, including Andrew Rannells (The Prom, Big Mouth) and Paul Scheer (The League, Human Giant). The show is created by David Caspe (Happy Endings, Marry Me) and Jordan Cahan (My Best Friend’s Girl, Champaign ILL) with Seth Rogen (Knocked Up, An American Pickle) and Evan Goldberg (Superbad, This Is the End) attached as executive produces. Rannells and Hall also produce the series.

Finally, the night of premieres will begin with Lena Waithe’s (Them, Master of None) The Chi at 9 p.m., Deadline reports. The series’ fourth season continues the interweaving stories of Chicagoans living near the city’s Southside. Season three saw Birgundi Baker’s (The Last Shift, Tuscaloosa) Keisha survive a harrowing kidnapping, while her hero, Ntare Mwine’s (Farwell Amor, Biro) Ronnie, was gunned down in retaliation for his past sins. This season will see actors Luke James (Star, Little) and Curtiss Cook (Roxanne Roxanne, Breaking Point) become series regulars as Tabitha Brown (All Between Us, Princess of the Row) and Jason Weaver (ATL, Smart Guy) join as guest stars.

According to Deadline, The Chi includes Derek Dudley (Meet the Blacks, The Last Two Lovers at the End of the World) and Shelby Stone (Lackawanna Blues, Bessie) as executive producers via Freedom Road Productions. They are joined by Waithe’s Hillman Grad Productions President Rishi Rajani (The Forty-Year-Old Version, Unforgettable), Aaron Kaplan (A Million Little Things, The Neighbors), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope, The Mandalorian), and Justin Hillian (Snowfall, I’m Dying Up Here). Watch a teaser trailer for The Chi below:
