The Boondock Saints– On TV?

The Boondock Saints may be coming to TV.

In an interview with We Got This Covered, director Troy Duffy explained that he is halfway finished with the script for the third film in the cult classic franchise. He also hinted at a future beyond the film—perhaps on television rather than the silver screen.

“I kind of envision a re-birth of the Boondock Saints for a new generation,” Duffy told the site. “With television you can go so much more in depth and tell a lot more story. I’m excited about it.”

The television version of Boondock Saints would differ from the films in one major way, however: stars Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery likely would not reprise their roles as the MacManus brothers for a weekly series. Though both are set to return for the third movie, Reedus is committed to the Walking Dead and Flanery is currently recurring on Dexter.

Fans have speculated about the success of a series without these two actors; Duffy, however, seems enthusiastic about the opportunities television would present for the series. Nonetheless, it is unlikely that he will pursue the establishment of a TV show until after the release of the third film.

The new director’s cut of The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day is currently available via Best Buy.
