The Emmy-winning series stars Jeremy Allen White (Shameless, The Iron Claw) as Carmy Berzatto, a chef who returns to Chicago to run his late brother’s restaurant. Over the course of the show, the restaurant evolves while the characters struggle with pressure, grief, and personal conflict.
Variety reports all eight episodes of season five will be released at once on Hulu, while FX will air the first two episodes the same day, followed by weekly broadcasts. The final season follows the events of season four, with Carmy stepping away from the restaurant business.
Sydney, played by Ayo Edebiri (Bottoms, Theater Camp), Richie, played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Punisher, Girls), and Natalie “Sugar” Berzatto, played by Abby Elliott (Saturday Night Live, Odd Mom Out), are set to reprise their roles for the upcoming season as well.
The series was created by Christopher Storer (The Bear, Ramy), whose mix of kitchen drama and emotionally driven storytelling helped make the show one of FX’s most successful recent series. Since premiering in 2022, The Bear has become a major awards contender, earning Emmy and Golden Globe wins for several cast members.
mxdwn previously covered the release of “Gary,” highlighting how the surprise prequel-style episode expanded on Richie and Mikey’s friendship ahead of the show’s conclusion. The episode starred Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead, Ford v Ferrari) as Mikey Berzatto and was co-written by Bernthal and Moss-Bachrach. Christopher Storer directed the installment.
That coverage focused on how the episode added emotional context to the series by revisiting a time before the restaurant’s collapse and showing the bond between the two characters while it was still intact. The confirmation that season five will be the series’ finale now places even more weight on episodes like “Gary,” which revisited important relationships before the story’s conclusion.
As the June premiere approaches, the final season is expected to bring closure to the Berzatto family story while revisiting the relationships and conflicts that shaped the series from the beginning.
