As mxdwn reported in October, the plans for the That’s So Raven spinoff has been in the works for quite some time. It was during this time last year that Raven-Symoné announced the production and subsequently announced her departure from her stint on The View, so that she would focus on this new (in a way) direction for her career.
Since then, production has worked quickly to catch up with the fervor behind the project. Although it had only been announced to be in development until recently, Disney Channel has confirmed today that the spinoff has been ordered to series, and is considering a premiere for later this year.
Additionally, TVline reported more details about the spinoff (now officially titled Raven’s Home). Of course, Raven-Symoné will be returning as the psychic, but it’s exciting to note that Anneliese van der Pol will also be reprising her role as Chelsea. Chelsea, Raven’s goofy red-headed friend from the original Disney series, was a source of comic relief and great support to the cast.
Disney Channel has also released the names of the children actors for Raven’s Home. Navia Robinson (Being Mary Jane) and Issac Brown (blackish) will be playing Raven’s 11-year-old twins. Jason Maybaum will also play Chelsea’s son.
News of this casting is vital, since van der Pol’s character is one of the two leading roles for the new spinoff. Raven’s Home tells the story of Chelsea and Raven raising their children in the same household after becoming divorced single mothers. While that may seem hectic enough, one of Raven’s children has begun exhibiting signs of her mother’s famous glimpses into the future, further complicating both their lives.
