Netflix Reveals ‘The Defenders’ Release Date and Trailer

For people who are keen Netflix and YouTube watchers, they may have noticed a new video that was posted and taken down by Netflix that reveals some juicy tidbits about the upcoming Marvel series, The Defenders.

According to Paste Magazine, it appears that The Defenders will be released for streaming starting on Aug. 18. Throughout the brief trailer, which is only 16 seconds long, many hints are dropped that also hint at this.

The Aug. 18 premiere date is assumed since Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) kicks out the running clock at 8:18:20:17.

But that’s not all the trailer gives away.

In the upper left hand corner of the video is an IP address. That IP address takes people to the website of the New York Bulletin, the fictional newspaper that’s one of the many common factors between DaredevilJessica JonesLuke Cage and Iron Fist. If you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page, there’s a message that says “Watch Marvel’s The Defenders All Episodes Streaming Only on Netflix August 18.”

Sometimes, it pays to read the small print.

Also on the website is a video that allows visitors to watch a video, featuring a Ward and Joy Meachum interview, which wasn’t featured in Iron Fist.

But that’s not the only thing that Netflix revealed today. While on the website for the Bulletin, you can click on the fake advertisement for the Chikara Dojo, which takes you to a page featuring Colleen Wing, who recently appeared in Iron Fist.

If you click on the fake advertisement on that page, it takes you to a fictitious LinkedIn profile for Ward Meachum, the current CEO for Rand Enterprises.

For now, that’s all the surprises Netflix has released, but as the premiere of the show, there’s likely to be more surprises that come your way.

The Defenders will be available for streaming on Friday, Aug. 18 on Netflix.
