According to Latin Times, Telemundo recently announced a deal they made with Jenni Rivera Enterprises (JRE) to produce a TV series inspired by the late multi-double platinum recording artist Jenni Rivera AKA “La Diva De La Banda.”
It’s been several years since Rivera’s fatal plane crash on December 9th 2012 in Iturbide, Mexico. Fans continue to keep her music alive and the network is producing the only official bio-musical series based on her life.
“We are excited to partner with Telemundo and the NBCUniversal family to bring to the world the only official television series based on Jenni’s life,” said JRE. “Jenni’s extraordinary career, passion for life, and infinite love for her family are a story never before told on television. Telemundo and JRE are dedicated to together growing Jenni’s powerful legacy through this series, the music tribute concerts and other historic projects.”
Luis Silberwasser, the president of the Telemundo Network stated “We are both proud and humbled that the Rivera family has chosen Telemundo to do the only authorized television series about her life.” Adding “We look forward to working with Rosie, Juan [Rivera’s siblings] and the entire family to preserve Jenni’s legacy and bring to our audiences the story of one of the most inspiring and powerful icons of the Hispanic community.”
Jenni Rivera Enterprises was founded by the late singer herself. Currently, JRE is managed by Jenni’s children along with her sister and brother Rosie Rivera and Juan Rivera, who are committed to preserving Jenni Rivera’s legacy. JRE also manages the Jenni Rivera Love Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting abused and battered women.
The news of the production of Jenni Rivera’s bio-musical series comes after Univision announced that they will also produce a show based on the singer’s life. The tentative title being Su Verdadero Nombre Era Dolores (Her Real Name Was Dolores). The show will portray how Rivera used her talent, intelligence, and persistence to break in male-dominated field.
As far as Rivera’s bio-pick and the TV Series, no announcement has been made as to when production is scheduled and it’s not known who will portray Rivera.
