Despite an iTunes mishap, Teen Wolf’s midseason finale still managed to draw the strongest ratings since the show’s third season premiere earlier this summer.
Via the Hollywood Reporter, the finale gained an audience of 2.1 million viewers, comparable to the premiere’s 2.3 million. The ratings are particularly impressive given that the episode was put up for sale on iTunes on Friday—three days ahead of when it was scheduled to air. Though it was taken down a few hours later, many had already purchased the episode or downloaded it elsewhere.
Creator Jeff Davis posted a statement on the official Teen Wolf Tumblr Friday, asking fans to watch the finale live and not spoil it for others. “I love this cast and crew like family and would love to be able to come back to them on Tuesday morning and say, ‘Your hard work has paid off guys. We did our best ratings yet.’” Clearly, his plea worked with the show drawing a .8 rating among adults 18 – 49.
The second half of the show’s third season will introduce new mythology into the world of Teen Wolf, as well as a return to the characters and relationships that audiences know and love. Fans do not have to wait until next summer, either: season “3B” premieres January 6, 2014 on MTV.
