‘Ted Lasso’ Cast Prepares For Season Four Greenlight

Ted Lasso may be greenlit for a fourth season very soon. According to Deadline, the soccer comedy’s studio, Warner Bros. Television, has picked up the options on three original cast members: Hannah Waddingham (The Fall Guy, Game of Thrones), Brett Goldstein (Shrinking, SuperBob) and Jeremy Swift (Downton Abbey, The Art of Love).

The three actors are the only cast members known to be contacted at this time due to being members of the UK acting union, Equity. After securing their contracts, the studio is expected to begin reaching out to additional Ted Lasso actors who are contracted by SAG-AFTRA, including Jason Sudeikis (We’re the Millers, Hall Pass), Brendan Hunt (Horrible Bosses, Dog With A Blog) and Juno Temple (Killer Joe, Venom: The Last Dance). However, Sudeikis is expected to be already involved with the production as one of the series’ co-creators.

Ted Lasso follows the story of a small-time college football coach from Kansas as he becomes the coach of a professional soccer team in England. Sudeikis originated the titular character in a series of NBC Sports videos. With the help of Hunt and other co-creators Joe Kelly (Detroiters, How I Met Your Mother) and Bill Lawrence (Scrubs, Cougar Town), the concept evolved into the Apple TV+ series known today.

Despite Ted Lasso‘s immense popularity and 13 Emmy Awards, the show’s creators always intended for it to follow a three-season story arc. However, the series ended with the potential for fourth season. Various cast members and executives at Apple and Warner Bros. Television have also expressed that they would love to see the show continue so long as Sudeikis is on board.

“I mean, you watched the finale, there’s a little bit of a door that could be kicked back open if need be,” Warner Bros. TV CEO Channing Dungey (Showtime, The Big Bounce) said via Variety. “I wouldn’t put the period on the end of that sentence just yet. There is still a lot of love for Ted Lasso. And I think that there still is a lot of enthusiasm on the part of Apple for Ted Lasso. Should the opportunity arise, we’d be excited to jump back in to making more…. There are always conversations that are ongoing, just nothing that’s official.”

If Ted Lasso season four can assemble a writers’ room and get a green light from Apple TV+, filming is expected to begin in early 2025.”
