Teasers for Tonight’s ‘Walking Dead’ and ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ from Showrunner

As fans continue taking shots in the feels from Carl’s (Chandler Riggs) death and the surprise of Neegan crony Simon’s (Steven Ogg) demise last week, what else can possibly happen on tonight’s season 8 finale of The Walking Dead and the premiere of season 4 on Fear the Walking Dead?

TWD show runner Scott Gimple, who will be moving to a new gig as Chief Content Officer for TWD universe, hopes fans get some closure, “I hope that they see why the story might have unfolded the way that it did and that taken altogether it gives them a sense of satisfaction and closure.”

Teasers and trailers for tonight’s “Wrath” have been pretty scarce; however, the few sneaks available look to deliver on just that. The multi-season arc of our heroes vs Neegan may be coming to an end.  Gimple gave an interview to Deadline.com highlighting many lingering questions about Lauren Cohan, the cross-over, and where the Walking Dead Universe is heading.

He wouldn’t confirm or deny Cohan’s return but does promise additional cross-over stories. He wouldn’t commit to a scene with Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Madison (Kim Dickens) in the same room but never say never. “…within any creative endeavor you’ve got to leave a little room for it, but right now we’re not planning that. There are some aspects that might cross over.”

As for tonight’s crossover, Gimple and crew were unsure they could truly pull off the rigorous schedules of back-to-back shows. With full support from AMC, the network obviously saw the potential in making this crossover work. He was also adamant about not trying to turn Fear into TWD.  “It was really nerve-wracking because we wanted to do right by all the Fear the Walking Dead OGs and yet we wanted to do something new with it, too,” noted Gimple, “So it was a real dance. So, it was a lot, but we’re real proud of the results. I’m really eager for people to see it.”

In his new capacity as COO, Gimple briefly touched on plans for some traditional outlets but also some unusual thoughts on future universe expansion. Tonight’s Survival Sunday is just the beginning, “We’re really trying to lay out a plan for this universe that has to do with these shows and that has to do with well beyond these shows.”

Tune in to The Walking Dead tonight at 9:00 p.m. ET immediately followed by the season premiere of Fear the Walking Dead on AMC.
