TVLine states that in new promo released by ABC, a flaming twister makes landfall in Music City, suggesting that it will be the first disaster that the firefighters must conquer when the spinoff premieres this fall. The exact release date has not yet been set, but as of now it is known that 9-1-1: Nashville will air Thursdays at 9/8c, in between 9-1-1 and Grey’s Anatomy.

According to TVLine, there have been many natural disasters throughout the 9-1-1 franchise. Tsunamis and earthquakes, and even asteroids were thrown in the paths of first responders, but a flaming tornado is certainly new.

9-1-1: Nashville’s executive producer Tim Minear (The Inside, Drive) tells TVLine that “There were a lot of possibilities that had been talked about.” He elaborates on the two reasons why this specific setting of the show was chosen; “One, I think that it’s a really interesting city with its own personality. It’s very unlike Austin. We did kind of a red state 9-1-1 [with Lone Star], but Austin is a very blue town. Nashville felt even a little bit more Southern. It also has the country music industry, and it just felt like it could be a fun place to set a piece of the franchise.”

TVLine adds that the second reason is because Nashville is slightly more feasible. “Quite frankly, Tennessee is very production-friendly,” Minear states. “That also factored into our reasoning. There are some states that you think would be fantastic places to set the show, but it’s just not cost effective to do it.”

The executive producers of 9-1-1: Nashville include Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story, Glee), the 9-1-1: Lone Star showrunner Rashad Raisani (The Gifted, Allegiance), Chad Lowe (Pretty Little Liars, Nobody’s Perfect), Angela Bassett (Black Panther, Strange Days) and Brad Falchuk (American Horror Story, The Brothers Sun), TVLine notes.
