TBS has officially ordered a pilot for comedian, actor and retired Marine Corps Reserve officer Rob Riggle’s aptly titled Rob Riggle’s Sportsbook, Deadline reports. The comedy and sports hybrid series is planned to be a weekly late-night show filmed in Las Vegas that Riggle will host and executive produce.
This news shows that TBS seems to enjoy the work that Daily Show alums like Riggle are doing, seeing as how the network has already gone forward with two other shows from former correspondents for Jon Stewart. TBS has recently renewed both Samantha Bee’s Full Frontal and Jason Jones’ Detour.
Combining comedy and sports is not a new area for Riggle. On Fox NFL Sunday during the football season, Riggle hosts a segment called Riggle’s Picks. He has also been a guest on the popular Earwolf sports/comedy podcast Sklarbro Country hosted by twin comedians Randy and Jason Sklar.
For people who don’t recognize his name, Rob Riggle is one of those comedic character actors that pops up everywhere and would probably look familiar if you saw him. He has been all over TV and movies, including Human Giant, The Other Guys, Step Brothers, NTSF:SD:SUV and The League. Riggle is probably most well known for his part in both of the recent Jump Street movies as the track coach Mr. Walters, and as one of the taser cops in The Hangover.
