The real Lone Ranger is coming to television screens this fall. Deadline reports Paramount Plus released a new teaser trailer for Lawman: Bass Reeves. The anthology series produced by Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown) will feature a different American lawman in each installment. Bass Reeves will showcase David Oyelowo (Selma, Silo) as the deputy US marshal that inspired the iconic TV series, The Lone Ranger. View the teaser below.
The official logline for the eight-episode series states the following via Deadline: Lawmen: Bass Reeves will bring the legendary lawman and outlaws of the Wild West to life. Reeves (Oyelowo), known as the greatest frontier hero in American history, worked in the post-Reconstruction era as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory, capturing over 3,000 of the most dangerous criminals without ever being wounded.
Joining Oyelowo in the cast are Donald Sutherland (M.A.S.H., A Time to Kill), Forrest Goodluck (How to Blow Up a Pipeline, Blood Quantum), Barry Pepper (Crawl, Trigger Point), Lauren E. Banks (City on a Hill, Canoe Poems), Demi Singleton (King Richard, The Deliverance), and Dennis Quaid (Full Circle, The Intruder), via Deadline.
Recurring cast members will include Joaquina Kalukango (Robin Roberts Presents: Mahalia, Bring Me to Light) as Esme, a formerly enslaved woman who is a dear friend of the Reeves family; Lonnie Chavis (This Is Us, The Water Man) as Arthery Mayberry, a young man who attempts to court Reeves’ daughter, Sally; Ryan O’Nan (Belong to Us, The Dry Land) as Darrell Dolliver, a member of an outlaw duo tracked by Reeves; Rob Morgan (Winning Time, Smile) as Ramsey who has grown tired of the other oppressive life in the Wild West; and, Justin Hurtt-Dunkley (High Flying Bird, To Live and Die in Bed-Stuy) as deputy U.S. marshal, Ike.
Deadline reports Shea Whigham (Perry Mason, Homecoming) and Garrett Hedlund (Justified: City Primeval, The Sandman) will guest star along with Bill Dawes (The Other Two, Alaska Daily), Mo Brings Plenty (The Good Lord Bird, The Redeemer), Margot Bingham (Golden Boy, Boardwalk Empire), Dale Dickey (Claws, True Blood), Tosin Morohunfola (The Chi, Love Is), and Grantham Coleman (The Americans, NCIS).
According to Deadline, Sheridan and Oyelowo serve as executive producers via their respective imprints Bosque Ranch Productions and Yoruba Saxon. Additional executive producers include showrunner and creator Chad Feehan (Beneath the Dark, Paranormal Activity 4), Christina Alexandra Voros (Kink, Child of God), Jessica Oyelowo (Mayo, Big Guy), David Permut (Dysfunktional Family, Captain Ron), Ron Burkle (Out of the Furnace, Movie 43), David Hutkin (The Current War, The War with Grandpa), Bob Yari (Mind Games, Crash), and David C.
