It seems that Amazon’s Prime Video is continue to expand to its ever growing library with a certain famous sci-fi franchise in mind. According to Deadline, in a recent statement by Amazon Prime Video’s OliverJones, he said that the streaming platform could potentially become the home of the famous Doctor Who series and shared his excitement with,”I love Doctor Who, and we welcome any conversations around IP”.  The series throughout the decades has captivated fans with its unique plot, where the Time Lord, nicknamed the Doctor, traverses through time and space alongside his companions partaking in missions, fighting against deadly enemies, and safeguarding the universe.

Reported by Deadline, the long runny BBC sci-fi series has gone through various platforms, with it originally starting on Disney+,, but exited due to the high episodes cost and low ratings of the second season run. Jones will be working closely with the VP & Head of UK and International Prime Video Originals, Nicole Clemens.

Clemens gave her own statement with Deadline about the approaching partnership,”The UK budget now sits in the UK, and the decision-making sits with me.” She further added. “I wanted to let people know that we’re open for business.” Jones  follows up with stating,”We’re a local UK team, we’re programming for UK audiences, and we’re programming across all of the regions,” said Jones. “Ideally, they also have universal themes, universal subject matters, which mean that they could travel and get bigger audiences.”

Amazon has previously shown a massive financial and creative commitment to major genre properties, with other UK series titles which include The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and Ted Lasso, and if Prime Video decide to add Doctor Who to its roster,, it is likely that their viewership will skyrocket to a whole other level. As of right now, there has been no official confirmation regarding the series’ placement, but Prime Video is keeping the door open for when a deal is finalized.
