The time-traveling mysteries of 12 Monkeys will continue to unfold as Syfy has ordered a 10-episode third season of the show.
According to Deadline, President of Entertainment Networks at NBCUniversal Cable Entertainmet, Chris McCumber, had some kind words to say about the series. “In two short seasons, 12 Monkeys has become a cult favorite series. Terry and the cast and crew have brought to life a rich world not confined by boundaries of time, with multi-dimensional characters whose motivations for saving the world are deeply personal and intesnely relatable,” said McCumber. “It’s exactly the type of smart, on-the-edge-of-your-seat entertainment we want to bring to Syfy viewers.”
12 Monkeys, based on the Terry Gilliam directed 1995 film starring Bruce Willis (which in turn was based on Chris Marker’s 1962 short film La Jetée), tells the story of a time-traveler named Cole who is sent back to the past on a mission to prevent the horrible future he knows from ever happening. Cole, played by Aaron Stanford (X-Men 2, Nikita), teams up with Amanda Schull’s Dr. Railly to take on the centuries-old, villainous Army of the 12 Monkeys organization. The series also stars Kirk Acevedo, Barbara Sukowa, Emily Hampshire, Todd Stashwick, Demore Barnes and Andrew Gillies.
Syfy’s 12 Monkeys is created by Nikita and Terra Nova alums Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett. Matalas is showrunner and executive producer on the series along with executive producers Charles Roven and Richard Suckle.
