Animal Planet will air a two-hour special, Surviving The Kill Zone, on Tuesday, May 13; two more series are slated for 2014-2015.
The network continues with the highest caliber of wildlife programming. The series will utilize ultramodern camera technology that makes for crystal-clear viewing of the animal kingdom from all vantage points.
In Surviving The Kill Zone, viewers are taken to Africa in what are the final days of the longest dry season in living memory. The special was shot with more than 65 high-tech, remote-controlled cameras and an expert visual team filming the wildlife of Zambia’s Luangwa Valley. Many of the animals have been trapped near the Luangwa River because it is the last substantial source for water and food within a hundred miles. Surviving The Kill Zone will give viewers a look into the harrowing and uplifting sides of the circle of life in what is a daily battle for existence among the animals.
Tigress Productions produces Surviving The Kill Zone for Animal Planet with Dick Colhurst as executive producer. Erin Wanner will Executive produce for Animal Planet and Hilary Tholen is associate producer. Kurt Tondrof, vice president of development for Animal Planet, developed the series.
In new series Snow Wolf Family (wt), slated for 2015, wildlife filmmaker Gordon Buchanan will be the first person to immerse himself among a wild wolf pack on the very remote Ellesmere Island, Canada. Buchanan will have to do so with extreme caution as the arctic wolves have little to no exposure to humans. He will have to gain the trust and acceptance of the pack if he wants to survive. He hopes to film their stories so viewers can get an intimate and raw look at the packs life.
