Supernatural is a show that previously aired on the CW network that was and is loved by many, whether they watched all fifteen seasons as it aired on The CW or binged it on Netflix.
According to Deadline, the Supernatural spinoff prequel is coming to a sad, possibly temporary, end. Due to new ownership of The CW network, the prequel titled The Winchesters has been canceled in order for The CW to take on content that has lower budgets and are less heavily scripted. This will create for a more profitable television network, but simultaneously breaks the hearts of many die hard Supernatural and The Winchesters fans.
The Winchesters, produced and narrated by Jensen Ackles (Supernatural, The Boys), also known as the Supernatural heartthrob who portrays oldest brother Dean Winchester, has created a hashtag campaign of #SaveTheWinchesters. This campaign, receiving tons of support, can be scoured on both Instagram and Twitter.
The Winchesters, which is affiliated with Warner Brothers, tells the story of how the beloved Sam and Dean Winchester came to be. The series follows how John and Mary Winchester originally connected and fell in love, along with how they got scooped into the mysterious and scary world of all things supernatural.
With the cult following that Supernatural has garnered, the last thing anyone would expect is for a sister series of the show to be canceled. Ackles and Warner Brothers have worked tirelessly to try to find a streaming network that will willingly pick up The Winchesters for a second season but they have seen no luck.
It was assumed it would be moved to Netflix, which houses all fifteen seasons of Supernatural, or that Max would pick it up, considering it’s owned by the same company as Warner Brothers. Ackles wasn’t even successful in having Amazon Studios pick it up, despite it being where Ackles’ company is primarily based.
While this is currently considered a temporary pause on production of The Winchesters, fans are still eager and hopeful that they’ll find out what happens next in The Winchesters.
