‘Superman & Lois’ Showrunners Ease Fans’ Minds Over Final Season Despite Cuts To The Main Cast

Fans of The CW series Superman & Lois were hit with the upsetting news that, despite the series getting renewed for fourth and final season, many of the main cast would not be returning for the entirety of the season but instead would continue to be in the season in recurring guest roles. However, in a recent conversation with EW, the creators set out to ease fans’ minds. According to ComicBook, the series showrunners are promising full and satisfying conclusions for all seven cast members.

Showrunner Todd Helbing (The Flash) explained that they had to change the primary cast to renew the series for a fourth season. Taking it in stride and understanding the “secret sauce” the showrunners had to use to get the show renewed, the seven cast members agreed to be in as much of the season as they could. This cooperation between the production crew and cast played a heavy hand in how the series could positively wrap up storylines for those characters.

In regards to how they are handling the end of the season, Helbing stated, “But when we talked to all the cast members, everybody understood it, and they were still committed to being in as many episodes as we could put them in…It also afforded us [the opportunity to] wrap all these storylines up in a really satisfactory way. People get a full meal, so the episodes they were in, they’re part of the storyline in a way that maybe they weren’t the past three seasons, and it’s really satisfying”, according to ComicBook.

After the initial announcement, many fans were and continue to be concerned over how much of their favorite characters are going to be seen in the final season, especially since a few of the actors of the show have confirmed that characters have either been cut or that they are looking for acting jobs. Many fans also suspect that the central part of the show might shift from the original Smallville setting and take the story back to Metropolis.

Co-showrunner Brent Fletcher (Lost) also teased an unexpected finale for the fans, “I don’t think people are going to think we’re ending the show the way that we are. When it ends and the credits come up, they’re going to be surprised,” according to ComicBook, easing the minds of many fans and stoking excitement for the final season despite its setbacks.

The final season of Superman & Lois is set to debut on October 7 on The CW with a two-part premiere. It will have a consistent release schedule with new episodes every Monday.
